VILMA JÄÄ @ KUPLA FEBRUARY 2nd, 2024
Ethno pop artist Vilma Jää combines age-old stories with electronic music. Vilma Jää’s sound fuses together Finno-Ugrian singing traditions and folk instruments such as kantele, pump organ and violin with electronically produced soundscapes and pop-esque aesthetics. Vilma Jää approaches current topics through history with a feminist perspective, revealing how little world has changed when it comes to women’s issues.
Vilma Jää is a singer, songwriter, violinist, and researcher with a Master’s Degree in Music. Her singing role in Kaija Saariaho’s opera has been praised internationally. With her ethno-pop fusion music, Vilma Jää has made Finno-Ugrian folk music known both in Finland and abroad.
Vilma Jää has released one album and five singles, most of which have secured their spots on popular radio playlists. Her song “Saatanan Saalistaja”was selected by a panel of music experts as one of the 100 best songs in the world in a Helsingin Sanomat poll in January 2022.
The event has an age limit of 18.
