On Friday, October 25th, Kupla will host its first contemporary folk music evening! During the evening, you will hear three unique and exciting folk music bands. Kurkitrio
Kurkitrio is a violin trio performing traditional folk music, founded in 2022. The trio consists of Eemeli Pruiksma, Henrica Westerholm, and Touko Kentala. In addition to traditional folk music, they play musical gems from around the world, arrange all their own pieces, and perform original compositions. Their performances are characterized by an engaging groove, humor, and the joy of playing together.

Freeta
Freeta is a fresh band that creates independent contemporary folk music using violin, cello, and piano. The trio’s repertoire consists of original compositions by its members, where folk music takes on new and sometimes unexpected forms. The group explores the sound possibilities of piano and string instruments, painting colorful musical stories. Verna Kylmänen (piano), Viive Virtanen (5-string violin), and Carolina Stenbäck (5-string cello) take the listener on an atmospheric journey through various landscapes, from Stockholm to Viikki, from November memories to the whirl of quadrilles and polkas.

HUIPPU

HUIPPU is a six-member band playing new folk music with tremendous intensity and youthful energy. The band has developed its own distinctive musical language, inspired by various folk music styles. Fresh compositions, dynamic rhythms, and the seamless interplay of the musicians create an experience you won’t want to miss!
