Modem & Dragsvik 13.9. @ Kupla
Dystopian synthesizer pop, yearning pop melodies and anarcho-pop on Friday 13.9. in Kupla!
MODEM
Modem is a Helsinki-based synth pop duo that fabricates dystopias of the past and future, questioning the possibilities of media and human communication. The band started as a simple experiment with vintage synthesizers and drum machines which eventually turned into haunting, danceable music. Inspiration was found from minimal electronics and new wave as well as Italo disco and film soundtracks from the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The first official MODEM release Movies / Autofiktio 12″ single appeared in spring 2022, accompanied by a cinematic music video directed by Ilona Lehtonen. The band’s debut album Megalomania came out in April 2024. However, the band is at its best live, which we will witness in Kupla on Friday, September 13.
DRAGSVIK
Dragsvik is a band from Helsinki founded in 2020, which combines in its music e.g. wistful pop melodies, anarcho-punk. With their recently released second album ‘Kaikki maailman kukat’, the band expands its expression into the foggy, yet grandiose corners of shoegaze and post-punk without forgetting the lyrics.
“I don’t bow down to anyone. I don’t honor, I don’t flatter, I don’t humiliate. I have no masters. I am not a citizen, not a loyal subject, not a puppet, a workhorse, an enabler of the rich. I don’t care about your economic growth or competitiveness, not your capital. I’m not interested in your money. I don’t owe anyone anything.”
And what could be better suited to performing the music of these bands than the temporary concert venue Kupla, made into a former bank?
